Add Links to Email Templates and Containers

Turn text or an image into a link, open it in a new window, use a replacement value as the link address, and remove a link.

You can turn any text or image in an email template or email container into a link: to your website, a review page, a scheduling page, or a payment page. Links are added with the Insert/edit link button on the editor toolbar.

Link text

  1. Go to Email > Email Templates and select the Edit (pencil) icon on a template, or select New Email Template. For a container, go to Email > Email Containers and edit the container.

  2. In the editor, highlight the words you want to link.

  3. Select Insert/edit link (the chain icon) on the toolbar, or press Ctrl+K (⌘K on a Mac).

  4. In the Insert/Edit Link window, enter the web address in URL, starting with https://.

  5. Text to display shows the words you highlighted. Change them here if you like.

  6. Set Open link in... to New window so the page opens in a new browser tab and your email stays open.

  7. Select Save, then select Save Template (or Save Container).

The linked words are underlined in the editor.

Link an image or logo

Making an image clickable is a good way to add a "Review us" button or link your logo to your website.

  1. Add the image to the template or container first. See Images, Files and Attachments in Email Templates.

  2. Click the image once in the editor to select it.

  3. Select Insert/edit link.

  4. Enter the URL, set Open link in... to New window, and select Save.

  5. Save the template or container.

Use a replacement value as the link address

In an email template, the URL can be a replacement value instead of a fixed address. ISN fills in the right address for each order when the email is sent. For example:

  • %paymenturl%: the order's online payment page. It is blank if your office has no payment processor set up.

Type the replacement value, including both % signs, into the URL field exactly as it appears in Insert Replacement Value. Send yourself a test to check the link.

Change or remove a link

  • Change a link: click the linked text or image, select Insert/edit link, update the URL and select Save.

  • Remove a link: select Advanced Editor at the top of the template page. Click the linked text or image, then select Remove link (the broken-chain icon). If you don't see it, select the ... button at the end of the toolbar to show more buttons. In an email container, Remove link is always on the toolbar.
