This article will go over why sometimes a report you are running is instead emailed to you

If you frequently run custom reports with our "build your own report" tool and/or also run payroll reports or inspector earning reports, you might have had issues with the reports timing out when trying to run these reports in the past.

You would have had to stay on the page to wait for the report to generate or worse, the page would ultimately time out and the report would not be generated. In some cases, you would have had to break the report down into smaller chunks and wait for each chunk to be completed before running the next.

This is why our development team is trying to solve these pain points with this new feature. Whenever you are running a report, if the size of the report is too big you will instead see this message pop up on the upper left-hand corner of the page:

Instead of having to wait or have the report time out, it will now be generated in the back end and emailed to the email address associated with the customer profile who is running the report. The benefit of this change is helping you avoid interrupting or pausing your workflow while you wait for the report to run.

Important note: This report may take from 5-30 minutes to be emailed to you but during busy times it could take up to 1 hour. The link to download the report found in the email will expire 3 days after being emailed but you can download the report to your device.

As of now, this feature is only enabled for custom reports and the inspector earnings report which, from our research, tend to be the ones that failed most often and/or took the longest. We will investigate implementing this approach with other reports if the impact on the user experience proves to be positive.
