Setting Up and Applying Convenience Fees

You can now charge a convenience when your clients pay by credit card via payment link

Note: Prior to enabling the Convenience Fee System:

  1. If you haven't already, create a specific Fee in your ISN to apply the Convenience Fee to at Settings -- Office Settings -- Inspection and Fee Settings -- Fees.
    Additional information regarding creating fees is available here.

  2. Then activate the convenience fee feature under Settings -- Office Settings -- My Office Settings -- Convenience Fee.

In the modal that pops up, be sure to read the legal disclosures regarding convenience fees carefully.
Then check the box labeled Use the Convenience Fee System.
You'll get a new set of options for which fee you apply the convenience fee to.

Select whether you'll be charging a percentage of your total fees, or a fixed amount.

Then enter the desired percentage, or fixed amount, in the Convenience Fee box.

NOTE: when entering a fixed amount, enter numeric values only. Do not include a dollar sign in the text field where you enter your fixed fee.

Select the fee to which you'll be applying the Convenience Fee.
โ€‹NOTE: this fee should ONLY hold the convenience fee, do not select a fee where you apply other costs.

You then have the option to include a custom message describing your convenience fee to your clients, or you can leave the message field blank to allow the system to display the default message.

Save your changes, and you're done!

The Payor Experience

At the top of the online payment page, the client will see disclaimer text that a convenience fee is being added to the inspection fee saying:

The total amount due contains a convenience fee of $x.xx. If you desire not to pay the convenience fee and would like to make the payment using another method please contact our office at -officenumber- to make arrangements.

Using the %convenience-fee-raw% code will automatically insert the total amount of the convenience fee.

Your customers will see this:


Once set up, the convenience fee will automatically apply to the first payments made by credit card via the payment link only. It will not automatically apply when collecting payment on ISN, ISN mobile, or sending a payment request. If you would like to apply the convenience fee in either of those cases, you will want to add it directly into the order form as shown in the steps here!
